Krugerrand gold coins

What makes the Krugerrand so special? The South African Mint began making these coins in 1967 and since then the coins have become world renowned. The fact that it was the first bullion coin to mark its weight in gold without a monetary face value made it particularly interesting to investors. This was kind of the point when the South Africans decided to market the Krugerrand as a bullion investment coin.

There was however a little controversy surrounding this gold coin as South Africa had sanctions imposed against them in the mid 1980s to early 1990s. Americans could not really purchase or rather import these coins. Some got around this prohibition by claiming that the krugerrand was in fact currency and thus some investors were able to hold on to these gems.

Aggressive marketing campaigns by the South Africans made the Krugerrand a highly sought-after bullion coin. Somewhere in the region of 45-50 million ounce of these guys were sold since the coins inception in '67.

I found an excellent location to purchase my gold bullion and you can get Krugerrands from them too. Northwest Territorial Mint is an excellent source for bullion (silver, gold, platinum and palladium). If you're new to investing in gold then you owe it to yourself to buy your first krugerrand from these guys.
